In the case of the field diary, many anglers use something like a small notepad with heavy sheets and protected in a plastic pouch with a marker and short ruler to record information while on the reservoir.

Logged information usually includes the following data:

1. Date of Trip
2. Lake Fished
3. Total Hours Fished
4. Weather Conditions (indicate sun, full cloud, part cloud or rain)
5. Wind Direction and Strength
6. Temperature (air and water)
7. Time Fish Caught (indicate when fish was caught)
8. Fish Numbers Size/Weight
9. Water Depth and Clarity
10. Cover/Structure you are fishing -- weedline, rocks, slop, pads, dock, etc.
11. Lure or Live Bait (include size and color)
12. Retrieve (fast, slow, finesse, etc.)

The office notebook consists of a final record of the field diary along with more in-depth records than in the field edition. Almost always pictures and snippets of topographic maps are included with the hard-copy log.
